For New Students: Take Advantage of the Opportunity to Work
I’m going to be quite frank here. When I first showed up at Carthage, I thought it was going to be way too small for me to enjoy the typical college lifestyle. Coming from a high school over more than 2,400 students, I felt as if nothing had changed between high school and college. However, even with my strong doubts that I would enjoy the school, it turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.
I’ve had a lot of jobs and been involved in a lot of student organizations while at Carthage. I currently work as an athletic communications assistant for Carthage Athletics, a coaches’ and travel assistant for the Carthage Men’s Basketball Team, the web editor and advertising manager for The Current, and I am a freelance social media and digital marketing consultant. I’ve also been a member of numerous student organizations throughout the past three years.
Each of the organizations has given me the opportunity to do something that I love: travel. Throughout my time at Carthage, I’ve traveled to Spain, Puerto Rico, and more than 20 cities in the United States! Not only am I getting a quality education and a great college experience, I’m traveling to places I never dreamed of and learning so much about different cultures and myself.
Even though Carthage is a relatively small school, it’s given me some world class experiences that I could have never gotten at a larger school. These experiences and trips have allowed me to grow both academically and personally, and it’s something that I wouldn’t trade for anything. Thank you Carthage, for giving me the gift of exploring the world.
