Men’s Swim and Diving Team Motivated By Teamwork
The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin 2016 1-Meter diving champion Aaron San Juan, ’19, is confident in his team’s ability to accomplish harder dives and motivate each other to succeed.
“The starting point this season is further along than it was last season. This year we have an iron-sharpening-iron team dynamic by challenging one another daily,” said San Juan. “We control our own destiny when we truly compete.”
The Red Men’s swimming and diving team used the past two season to grow and develop as a unit. Finishing second in the CCIW for the past two years, head coach Seth Weidmann is ready to see even greater success from his athletes.
“Goal setting has been huge this year, with our guys having individual and team goals, the biggest being to win the CCIW championship and qualify for the NCAAs,” said Weidmann.
However, success is not limited to winning the conference title. The success of each individual is also a team goal.
“Even if we don’t win conference, I want everyone to be happy with their swims, because that’s what it’s all about. It would be great at the end of the season to look back and think ‘that was awesome’,” said Nick Sall, ’17.
Senior swimmer Lee Hollman, ’17, seconds his teammates comment. The success of individuals will lead to the success of the team as a whole.
“Personally, I want to get back into the top three for my individual events. I know if I do that, I can medal and be closer to qualifying for the NCAA championship,” said Hollman.
Carthage swimming and diving opens with the All-Wisconsin Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 22 followed by their home opener against Lake Forest on Saturday, Oct. 29.
