Stephanie Korbakes: Transferring To a New Court

Following her transfer from Christian Brothers University to Carthage, Stephanie Korbakes, ’17, found settling into the Lady Red’s volleyball team’s dynamic less stressful because of her decision to transfer after the season concluded, rather than at the start of the season. Korbakes transferred to Carthage College in spring 2015 to focus on a career in physical education rather than business.

“It was definitely an interesting transition. It was beneficial to have that time in April to get used to the team pace, how they run their system and become more comfortable with everyone before training for the new season in August,” said Korbakes.

Throughout her first season, Korbakes made an immediate impact with the Lady Reds playing in all 43 matches and making 39 starts, averaging 2.73 kills and 1.28 digs per set. Korbakes also earned the National Collegiate Athletic Association All-Tournament Team and the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Second Team All-Conference honors.

Although the 2016 season is her second and final season at Carthage, Korbakes is determined to achieve team and personal goals.

“I want to leave it all on the floor and do my best so when I look back, I will be happy with how I played,” said Korbakes. “I believe that when we go with a momentum of stepping up everyday in practice, on the court, and during games, we will be successful as a team.”
